Governor Appoints Three, Re-appoints Six to Developmental Disabilities Council

Governor John Engler today appointed a total of nine individuals to the Developmental Disabilities Council. The council receives federal funding provided under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 1990, which assists programs in helping developmentally disabled individuals in Michigan. All terms expire September 17, 2002.

Theresa Arini, of Sterling Heights, is the owner and a consultant at Capability Resources. She has been re-appointed to represent primary consumers.

Corrie Bair, of Edwardsburg, is a support coordinator at the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition. Replacing Ian Minicuci, Bair has been appointed to represent primary consumers.

Theodore Beck, of East Lansing, is supervisor of the quality assurance program at the Michigan Department of Education. Replacing Jacquelyn Thompson, Beck has been appointed to represent the Department of Education.

Robert Cecil, of Okemos, is director of the Office of Adult Services at the Michigan Family Independence Agency. He has been re-appointed to represent the Family Independence Agency.

Yvonne Fleener, of Lansing, is a senior advocate with the American Association of Mental Retardation. She has been re-appointed to represent Michigan advocacy and protection services.

Diane Kempen, of Kalamazoo, has been the financial officer for The Bishop Company since 1985. She has been re-appointed to represent primary consumers.

Barbara LeRoy, of Ann Arbor, is director of the Developmental Disabilities Institute at Wayne State University. She has been re-appointed to represent the Michigan University Affiliate Program.

Karen Massaro-Mundt, of Fort Gratiot, is an independent living consultant and advocate at the Blue Water Center for Independent Living. She has been re-appointed to represent secondary consumers.

Cassandra Wells, of Detroit, is a field representative for the Office of Aging, located within the Department of Community Health. Replacing Karen Carroll, Wells has been appointed to represent the Office of Services to the Aging.
